3FM NAFire Association Silver Fire Mark. President of the Reliance Insurance Company (Saul P. Steinberg) had a few solid sterling silver replicas made of their Fire Association Fire Mark. They were presented in a high quality custom made presentation case. These measure 10 3/8 inches by 6 3/4 inches- He presented these to special friends as well as high ranking officials- These contain 82 ounces of solid sterling silver and today if scrapped for the value of the silver, would bring in excess of $1,300.00- At the present time, Seller is only aware of two and currently owns both. RESERVE is $2000 Pass

27RattleNAWatchman's Rattle. Watchmen would whirl these in response to fires, crimes, to alert police or volunteer firemen and citizenry of danger. New York (then the Dutch colony New Amsterdam) established a rattle watch in 1652. Before whistles, law enforcement used wooden rattles and their distinct noise to signal for help, even into the 19th century. Brass Plate on each side of Rattle with one side etched "No. 409." 80

79FMW89AShropshire & North Wales. Est. 1836. A small Provincial Insurance Company that did little business outside of its base of Shrewsbury and surrounding areas. This example is of the first and very short-lived variant. Stamped in a gauge of brass too thick to readily accept the deep profiles of the die which resulted in stress cracks - as seen in all known surviving marks. Within the first year a lighter gauge sheet brass was substituted and the words & NORTH WALES inverted so that details were more readily legible from Street level. (see Wright 89A and Bulau 881 for examples. This example is one of the best seen with few stress cracks (supported at rear). Scarce mark. Pass
